Method

Important

Doses can be repeated at intervals as directed by medical staff, typically within a limited timeframe during an emergency.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Anxiety
  • Headache
  • Palpitations (fast or strong heartbeat), rapid heartbeat
RARE
  • Lactic acidosis (too much acid in the blood)
  • Bleeding in the brain, partial paralysis (when using higher than normal doses)
  • Irregular heart rhythm (ventricular arrhythmias), chest pain, stress-induced heart attack
  • Sudden high blood pressure
  • Shortness of breath, fluid in the lungs (pulmonary edema) in sensitive individuals
  • Tissue damage at the injection site (local ischemic necrosis)
  • Restlessness, tremors, weakness, coldness in fingers and toes

Important Warnings

  • If you have an overactive thyroid, high blood pressure, heart failure, heart disease, or chronic lung disease, you might be more sensitive to Adrenalin.
  • Adrenalin can raise blood sugar levels, especially if you have diabetes.
  • If you have narrow-angle glaucoma, Adrenalin can increase pressure in your eyes.
  • Adrenalin may cause low potassium levels in your blood.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking MAO inhibitors or other similar medications.

  • Be careful if you are having general anesthesia with certain gases (halogenated hydrocarbons or cyclopropane).
  • Do not use Adrenalin if the solution looks brown, discolored, or cloudy.
  • This medicine contains sodium metabisulfite, which can cause severe allergic reactions or breathing problems, especially if you have asthma or other allergies.
