How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 1.5 mg per day for kidney or heart transplants, and 2.0 mg per day for liver transplants.

Method

Take the tablets by mouth, swallow them whole with a glass of water. Do not crush them. The dose is usually split into two, one in the morning and one in the evening, with the first dose taken soon after transplant.

Important

Your doctor will decide your dose and may adjust it as needed. There is no fixed maximum daily dose; it is adjusted individually by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Infections (viral, bacterial, fungal)
  • Respiratory infections (including pneumonia, throat inflammation, flu)
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Low red blood cell count (anemia), low white blood cell count (increased infection risk), low platelet count (bleeding/bruising risk)
  • High blood fats (lipids, cholesterol, triglycerides), high blood sugar (new diabetes)
  • Low potassium levels in blood
  • Anxiety, difficulty sleeping (insomnia)
  • Headache
  • Fluid buildup around the heart (can affect heart pumping) or in the lungs/chest (can cause shortness of breath)
  • High blood pressure
  • Blood clots in veins (venous thrombosis)
  • Cough, shortness of breath
  • Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain
  • Generalized pain
  • Fever
  • Fluid retention in tissues
  • Abnormal wound healing
RARE
  • Sepsis (blood poisoning), wound infections
  • Cancers and benign tumors (including skin cancer, lymph node cancer)
  • Kidney damage with low red and white blood cells and platelets (may cause rash, weakness, bruising, infections)
  • Blood clots in kidney blood vessels (can lead to transplant loss)
  • Bleeding disorders, nosebleeds, bruising or bleeding without clear cause
  • Lymph fluid cysts, swelling (lymphoedema), swelling of face/lips/tongue/throat (angioedema)
  • Mouth or throat pain, mouth ulcers
  • Inflammation of pancreas (pancreatitis)
  • Acne, rashes, hives (urticaria)
  • Joint pain, muscle pain
  • Protein in urine, kidney problems
  • Impotence, hernia at surgical site
  • Abnormal liver function tests, liver inflammation, jaundice (yellow skin/eyes)
  • Menstrual disorders (missing or heavy periods)
  • Low testosterone levels (in men)
  • Ovarian cysts
  • Abnormal protein buildup in lungs (causing persistent dry cough, tiredness, breathing difficulties)
  • Inflammation in blood vessels
  • Low iron levels in blood

Important Warnings

  • Aderolio can weaken your body's ability to fight infections. Contact your doctor immediately if you have fever, feel generally unwell, cough, or feel a burning sensation when urinating.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you experience confusion, speech problems, memory loss, headache, vision problems, or seizures. These could be signs of a serious brain condition.
  • Aderolio can slow down wound healing. If you have a wound that isn't healing, tell your doctor.
  • Aderolio may increase your risk of cancer, especially skin cancer. Protect your skin from the sun with clothing and high-factor sunscreen.
  • Your doctor will regularly monitor your kidney, liver, and lung function with blood tests. Tell your doctor if you have liver problems or respiratory symptoms like cough or shortness of breath.
