How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 1.5 mg per day for kidney and heart transplants, and 2.0 mg per day for liver transplants.

Method

Take Aderolio tablets whole with a glass of water; do not crush them. Take your first dose as soon as possible after a kidney/heart transplant, and about four weeks after a liver transplant, usually with cyclosporine or tacrolimus.

Important

Your doctor will determine your maximum daily dose; typically, initial daily doses are 1.5 mg for kidney/heart transplants and 2.0 mg for liver transplants, split into two doses.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Infections (viral, bacterial, and fungal)
  • Lower respiratory infections, such as pneumonia
  • Upper respiratory infections, such as sore throat and flu
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Anemia (low red blood cell count)
  • Low white blood cell count (increased infection risk), low platelet count (can cause bleeding and bruising)
  • High blood fat levels (lipids, cholesterol, and triglycerides)
  • Onset of diabetes (high blood sugar)
  • Low blood potassium
  • Anxiety
  • Difficulty sleeping (insomnia)
  • Headache
  • Fluid buildup around the heart, which in severe cases can weaken the heart's ability to pump blood
  • High blood pressure
  • Blood clots in veins
  • Fluid buildup in the lungs or chest, which in severe cases can cause shortness of breath
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal pain
  • Generalized pain
  • Fever
  • Swelling in tissues (edema)
  • Abnormal wound healing

  • Blood clots in kidney blood vessels, potentially leading to transplant loss, usually within 30 days post-surgery

  • Cysts containing lymph fluid
  • Mouth or throat pain
  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
  • Mouth ulcers
  • Acne
  • Hives (urticaria) and other allergic reactions like swelling of the face or throat (angioedema)

  • Kidney problems

  • Hernia at the surgical site

  • Menstrual disorders (including absent or heavy periods)
RARE
  • Lymphoma (cancer in lymph tissue after transplant)
  • Low testosterone levels
  • Pneumonitis (lung inflammation)
  • Hepatitis (liver inflammation)
  • Jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes)
  • Ovarian cysts

Important Warnings

  • Aderolio weakens your immune system, making you more prone to infections. Contact your doctor if you have a fever, feel unwell, or experience confusion, speech problems, memory loss, headaches, vision changes, or seizures.
  • If you have had recent surgery or have wounds that are not healing, Aderolio may increase problems with wound healing.
  • Aderolio can increase your risk of cancer, especially skin and lymph node cancers. Limit sun exposure and use sunscreen with a high SPF.
  • Your doctor will monitor your kidney and liver function, blood fat, sugar levels, and lung symptoms. Report any breathing problems or liver issues to your doctor.
  • Aderolio may affect male fertility. Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Use effective contraception during treatment and for 8 weeks after.

  • Aderolio tablets contain lactose. If you have a sugar intolerance, talk to your doctor before taking this medicine.
