How to Use
Dosage
For adults, the maintenance dose and for mild to moderate deficiency is 40-80 mmol potassium per day; for severe deficiency, the dose is 120-160 mmol per day. For children, the dose is a maximum of 4 mmol potassium per kilogram of body weight per day.
Method
A doctor or nurse will give this medicine directly into a vein (intravenously) and it must always be diluted.
Important
For adults with severe deficiency, a maximum of 160 mmol potassium per day, and the infusion rate should not exceed 20 mmol potassium per hour.
Important Warnings
- Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to potassium, phosphate, acetate, or any other ingredients.
- Do not use if you have too much potassium in your blood (hyperkalemia), kidney failure, shock, or severe dehydration.
- Before starting treatment, your doctor must ensure that your urine output is sufficient.
- During treatment, your blood potassium levels and heart function will be checked regularly, especially with high doses or rapid infusion.
