How to Use

Dosage

The usual daily dose for adults and elderly is two 10 mg tablets (20 mg total), taken once a day. The dose is gradually increased over 4 weeks.

Method

Take Adaxor by mouth once a day, every day at the same time. Swallow the tablets with water. You can take them with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 20 mg (two 10 mg tablets).

  • Depression, suicidal thoughts, and suicide (associated with Alzheimer's disease, reported in patients on Adaxor)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Adaxor if you are allergic to memantine hydrochloride or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Talk to your doctor before taking Adaxor if you have ever had epileptic seizures.
  • Talk to your doctor before taking Adaxor if you recently had a heart attack, suffer from heart failure, or have uncontrolled high blood pressure.
  • If you have kidney problems, your doctor will monitor your kidney function and may adjust the dose.
  • Avoid taking Adaxor with certain other medicines like amantadine (for Parkinson's), ketamine (anesthesia), or dextromethorphan (for cough).

  • Tell your doctor if you have recently changed your diet (e.g., to a strict vegetarian diet) or if you have kidney problems or severe urinary tract infections, as your doctor may need to adjust your dose.
  • Adaxor is not recommended for children or adolescents under 18 years of age.
  • Adaxor is not recommended if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Adaxor contains lactose. If your doctor has told you that you have an intolerance to some sugars, talk to your doctor before taking this medicine.
  • This medicine may affect your ability to drive or use machines. Your doctor will advise if it is safe for you to do so.
