How to Use

Dosage

Take 1 tablet 5 times a day, about every 4 hours (not at night), for 5 days.

Method

Swallow the tablet with a glass of water or another drink.

Important

Do not take more than 5 tablets in one day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache, dizziness.
  • Feeling sick or throwing up, diarrhea, stomach ache.
  • Itching, skin rash (including skin reactions after sun exposure).
  • Tiredness and fever.
RARE
  • Hives, hair loss.
  • Increased levels of urea and creatinine in the blood.
  • Increased liver enzyme levels (bilirubin and liver enzymes).
  • Difficulty breathing.
  • Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis and/or angioedema) with symptoms like rapidly spreading hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or other body parts, shortness of breath, wheezing or difficulty breathing, fainting. If this happens, stop taking the medicine and seek immediate medical attention.
  • Low red blood cell count (anemia).
  • Low white blood cell count (leukopenia).
  • Low platelet count (cells that help blood clot).
  • Agitation or confusion.
  • Tremors or shaking.
  • Unsteady walking and poor coordination, speech problems, seeing or hearing things that are not there (hallucinations), problems thinking or understanding, fits (convulsions), unusual drowsiness or sleepiness, brain disorder (encephalopathy), unconsciousness (coma).
  • Liver inflammation and possibly jaundice (yellow skin and eyes).
  • Lower back pain, kidney pain (possibly with kidney problems).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Acyrax if you are allergic to aciclovir, valaciclovir, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Talk to your doctor if your immune system is weak (e.g., if you have had a bone marrow transplant or are HIV-positive).
  • Talk to your doctor if you have kidney problems.
  • Talk to your doctor if you are over 65 years old.
  • Contact a doctor if your cold sore is severe, widespread, or gets worse.

  • Do not give to children under 18 without a doctor's prescription.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before using this medicine.
  • Some side effects, like dizziness or drowsiness, can affect your concentration. Do not drive or operate machinery if you experience these symptoms.
