How to Use
Dosage
Take one 800 mg tablet five times a day, about every four hours, skipping the dose during the night.
Method
Swallow the tablets with water or another liquid.
Important
Do not take more than 4000 mg (five 800 mg tablets) in one day.
Possible Side Effects
COMMON
- •Feeling confused
- •Seeing or hearing things that aren't there
- •Headache, feeling dizzy or sleepy
- •Feeling sick to your stomach
- •Throwing up
- •Loose stools
- •Pain in your tummy
- •Itchy skin
- •Skin rash (may be sensitive to sunlight)
- •Feeling tired
- •High temperature
- •Feeling very tired or worn out
RARE
- •Trouble sleeping
- •Red, itchy bumps on the skin
- •Hair falling out more than usual (unclear if related to medicine)
- •Serious allergic reactions (like anaphylaxis)
- •Difficulty breathing
- •Changes in liver test results (bilirubin, liver enzymes)
- •Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat (angioedema)
- •Changes in kidney test results (urea, creatinine)
- •Changes in blood counts (like anemia, low white blood cells, low platelets)
- •Feeling like you don't belong (goes away after treatment), restlessness, strange thoughts
- •Shaking, clumsy movements, trouble speaking, seizures, brain problems, severe confusion, even coma
- •Liver inflammation, yellowing of skin/eyes (jaundice)
- •Sudden kidney failure, pain in the kidneys
Important Warnings
- Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to aciclovir, valaciclovir, or any other ingredient in it.
- Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems or are elderly, as your dose may need to be changed. Make sure to drink plenty of fluids during treatment.
- Talk to your doctor if you have a nervous system illness.
- This medicine can make you feel tired, dizzy, or give you a headache. Be careful when driving or using machines.
