How to Use

Dosage

The amount of medicine you get depends on your body weight.

Method

A doctor or nurse will put Actilyse into your blocked catheter. After 30 minutes, they will check if it's clear. If not, the medicine stays in for another 90 minutes. After treatment, the medicine is removed, and the catheter is rinsed. This can be repeated once if needed.

Important

The most you can get is 2 mg. If you weigh less than 30 kg, you will get a smaller amount.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • An infection spreading from the catheter to your blood, causing blood poisoning.
  • Damage to the catheter, such as it getting blocked, leaking, or breaking.
RARE
  • Fever.
  • Allergic reactions, which can be serious.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to alteplase or any of its ingredients.
  • Tell your doctor if you have bleeding anywhere in your body.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had surgery, a biopsy, a needle puncture, or given birth in the last 48 hours, as these can increase bleeding risk.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a problem with bleeding or bruise easily.
  • Tell your doctor if you have serious liver or kidney problems.

  • Tell your doctor if there is a blood clot in a blood vessel near your catheter.
  • Tell your doctor if your catheter has an infection or might have one.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking blood thinning medicines (like aspirin, warfarin, or heparin) or certain medicines for high blood pressure.
