Important Warnings

  • Do not give this vaccine if your child is allergic to the active ingredients (Haemophilus influenzae type b polysaccharide, tetanus protein) or any other part of the vaccine, like formaldehyde. Also, tell your doctor if your child has a latex allergy, as the syringe tip protector may contain latex.
  • Do not give if your child has had a severe reaction to a previous Act-HIB vaccine or a similar vaccine.
  • If your child has a fever or is very sick, the vaccination should be delayed until they are better.
  • Act-HIB only protects against infections caused by Haemophilus influenzae type b. It does not protect against other types of bacteria or other causes of meningitis. Also, the tetanus part of this vaccine does not replace your child's regular tetanus shots.
  • Tell your doctor if your child has a weakened immune system or problems with bleeding. These conditions might affect how the vaccine works or increase the risk of bleeding from the injection.
Show 2 more warnings
  • Some people might faint before or after an injection. Tell your doctor if you or your child have fainted from injections before.
  • If your baby was born very early (premature), they might have longer pauses in breathing for a few days after the vaccine. Doctors will monitor them closely.
