This medicine stops certain viruses from growing and helps treat or prevent infections like cold sores, genital herpes, shingles, and chickenpox.
For adults, the typical dose is one 200 mg tablet five times a day for 5 days, or one 800 mg tablet five times a day for 7 days, depending on the infection. Your doctor will tell you the exact dose.
Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. If you are unsure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Do not take more than 4000 mg (five 800 mg tablets) in one day.
