How to Use

Dosage

For adults, the typical dosage is one 200 mg tablet five times a day for 5 days, but this can vary depending on the infection. Always follow your doctor's instructions.

Method

Take the tablets whole with water, exactly as your doctor instructed.

Important

The maximum daily dose depends on your condition, but generally do not exceed 4000 mg (800 mg five times a day). Always follow your doctor's instructions.

  • Increased levels of urea and creatinine in the blood
  • Lack of red or white blood cells or platelets (anemia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia)
  • Agitation
  • Confusion
  • Tremors
  • Coordination problems (ataxia)
  • Speech difficulties (dysarthria)
  • Hallucinations
  • Psychotic symptoms
  • Seizures
  • Drowsiness
  • Brain disorder (encephalopathy)
  • Coma
  • Liver inflammation, possibly with yellow skin (jaundice)
  • Sudden kidney failure
  • Kidney pain

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Aclovir if you are allergic to aciclovir, valaciclovir, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Aclovir if you are over 65 years old, have kidney problems, or are taking probenecid (a gout medicine).
  • If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.
  • If you have an intolerance to some sugars (lactose), talk to your doctor before taking Aclovir 200 mg or 400 mg tablets.
