RARE
  • Hives (itchy red bumps on skin)
  • Hair loss
  • Serious allergic reactions (like sudden swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue, throat, or trouble breathing)
  • Changes in liver or kidney blood tests
  • Changes in blood cell counts
  • Mental changes (like feeling unusually excited or seeing/hearing things that aren't there)
  • Seizures or going into a coma
  • Liver problems, which might make your skin or eyes look yellow (jaundice)
  • Kidney problems, which might cause kidney pain

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to aciclovir, valaciclovir, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • If you take high doses, make sure to drink enough fluids.
  • If your immune system is very weak, long-term use might make the medicine less effective against the virus.
  • If you have kidney problems or are elderly, your doctor might need to adjust your dose.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning a pregnancy, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine.
