How to Use

Dosage

Take 1000 mg (two tablets) once a day.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with water on an empty stomach. Take the medicine at least two hours after eating, and do not eat anything for at least one hour after taking the medicine. Do not break the tablets.

Important

The maximum dose is 1000 mg (two tablets) per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Fluid retention in legs or feet.
  • Low potassium in the blood (can cause muscle weakness, muscle twitching, or palpitations).
  • Increased liver function test values.
  • High blood pressure.
  • Urinary tract infection.
  • Diarrhea.
  • High blood fat levels.
  • Chest pain.
  • Irregular heartbeat (like atrial fibrillation) or fast heart rate.
  • Heart failure.
  • Severe infection (sepsis).
  • Bone fractures.
  • Indigestion.
  • Blood in urine.
  • Rash.
RARE
  • Adrenal gland problems (affecting fluid and salt balance).
  • Muscle weakness and/or muscle pain.
  • Lung irritation (allergic inflammation).
  • Acute liver failure (severe liver damage).
  • Heart attack.
  • Changes in heart's electrical activity (ECG).
  • Severe allergic reactions (difficulty swallowing/breathing, swelling of face/lips/tongue/throat, itchy rash).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to abiraterone or any other ingredient in the medicine.
  • This medicine is only for men. Women, especially if pregnant, should not use it as it can harm the unborn baby.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver damage.
  • Do not take with radium-223 (Ra-223) as this can increase the risk of bone fractures or death.
  • Do not take with food, as it can cause side effects and lead to too much medicine being absorbed.

  • Do not stop taking prednisone or prednisolone without your doctor's advice.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver problems or if your skin or eyes turn yellow, your urine darkens, or if you have severe nausea or vomiting, as these can be signs of liver problems.
