How to Use

Dosage

The recommended dose is 1000 mg (two tablets) once a day.

Method

Take this medicine by mouth on an empty stomach. Take your tablets at least two hours after eating, and do not eat for at least one hour after taking them. Swallow the tablets whole with water, do not break them. This medicine is often taken with another medicine called prednisone or prednisolone.

Important

The recommended daily dose is 1000 mg (two tablets) once a day. Do not exceed this dose.

RARE
  • Adrenal gland problems (related to fluid and salt balance)
  • Abnormal heart rhythm (arrhythmia)
  • Muscle weakness and/or muscle pain
  • Lung irritation (allergic alveolitis)
  • Severe liver dysfunction (acute liver failure)
  • Heart attack
  • Changes in EKG (QT prolongation)
  • Severe allergic reactions with difficulty swallowing or breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, or an itchy rash

Important Warnings

  • Stop taking this medicine and see a doctor immediately if you experience muscle weakness, muscle twitching, or a fluttering heart (palpitations), as these may indicate low potassium levels in your blood.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to abiraterone acetate or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • This medicine is only for men. Women, especially if pregnant, must not take it. Pregnant women should wear gloves if handling the tablets.
  • If you have sex with a woman who could become pregnant, use a condom and another effective birth control method. If you have sex with a pregnant woman, use a condom to protect the fetus.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe liver damage.

  • Do not take this medicine together with radium-223 (used for prostate cancer) as it may increase the risk of bone fractures or death.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver problems, high blood pressure, heart failure, low potassium levels, other heart or blood vessel issues, an irregular or fast heartbeat, shortness of breath, rapid weight gain, swollen feet, ankles or legs, a history of ketoconazole use, bone problems, or high blood sugar.
  • Your doctor will monitor your liver function with blood tests regularly during treatment, as this medicine can affect your liver without symptoms.
  • This medicine is not for children or adolescents. If a child or adolescent accidentally swallows Abiraterone ratiopharm, take them to a hospital immediately and bring this leaflet.
