Abiraterone Sandoz is a medicine used to treat prostate cancer in adult men by stopping the body's production of testosterone, which can slow down cancer growth.

How to Use

Dosage

1,000 mg (two tablets) once a day.

Method

Take by mouth on an empty stomach. Take Abiraterone Sandoz at least two hours after eating and do not eat for at least one hour after taking it. Swallow tablets whole with water; do not break them. This medicine must always be taken with prednisone or prednisolone as directed by your doctor.

Important

Maximum 1,000 mg (two tablets) once a day.

RARE
  • Adrenal gland problems (related to fluid and salt balance)
  • Abnormal heart rhythm (arrhythmia)

  • Lung irritation (allergic alveolitis)
  • Liver failure (acute liver failure)
  • Heart attack
  • Changes in ECG (prolonged QT interval)
  • Severe allergic reactions with difficulty swallowing or breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, or itchy rash

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to abiraterone acetate or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • This medicine is for men only. Women, especially if pregnant, must not use this medicine as it can harm the fetus. Pregnant women or women who may become pregnant should wear gloves if handling the tablets. If you have sex with a woman who could become pregnant, use a condom and another effective birth control method. If you have sex with a pregnant woman, use a condom to protect the fetus.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver problems or if your skin or eyes turn yellow, your urine darkens, or you experience severe nausea or vomiting, as these can be signs of liver damage.
  • Tell your doctor if you have high blood pressure, heart failure, low potassium levels in your blood, or other heart or blood vessel problems, such as an irregular heartbeat, shortness of breath, rapid weight gain, or swollen feet/ankles.
  • Do not use this medicine at the same time as Radium-223 (Ra-223) due to an increased risk of bone fractures and death. If you plan to use Ra-223 after abiraterone and prednisone/prednisolone, you must wait five days before starting Ra-223 treatment.
