How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is 1000 mg (four 250 mg tablets or two 500 mg tablets) once a day.

Method

Take this medicine by mouth. Do not take it with food. Take it as a single dose once a day on an empty stomach. This means at least two hours after you have eaten and you should not eat for at least one hour after taking it. Swallow the tablets whole with water.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 1000 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Swelling in your legs or feet.
  • Low potassium levels in your blood.
  • High levels of liver enzymes in blood tests.
  • High blood pressure.
  • Urinary tract infection.
  • Diarrhea.
  • High levels of fats in your blood.
  • Chest pain.
  • Irregular heartbeat (atrial fibrillation).
  • Heart failure.
  • Fast heartbeat.
  • Severe infection (sepsis).
  • Bone fractures.
  • Indigestion.
  • Blood in your urine.
  • Skin rash.
RARE
  • Problems with your adrenal glands (linked to fluid and salt imbalance).
  • Abnormal heart rhythm (arrhythmia).
  • Muscle weakness and/or muscle pain.
  • Lung irritation (allergic alveolitis).
  • Acute liver failure (severe liver damage).
  • Heart attack.
  • Changes in your heart's electrical activity (QT prolongation on ECG).
  • Severe allergic reaction with difficulty swallowing or breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, or an itchy rash.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to abiraterone acetate or any other ingredient in it.
  • This medicine is only for men. Women, especially if pregnant or possibly pregnant, should not take or handle these tablets without gloves.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe liver problems, yellow skin or eyes, dark urine, or severe nausea or vomiting, as these can be signs of liver issues.
  • Do not take this medicine with Radium-223 (Ra-223) because it can increase the risk of bone fractures or death.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have high blood pressure, heart problems (like heart failure or irregular/fast heartbeat), low potassium in your blood, shortness of breath, sudden weight gain, or swollen feet/ankles/legs.

  • Do not stop taking Abirateron Avansor or prednisone/prednisolone unless your doctor tells you to.
  • If you have sex with a woman who could get pregnant, you must use a condom and another reliable birth control method. If you have sex with a pregnant woman, use a condom to protect the baby.
