How to Use

Dosage

One tablet.

Method

Take once a day. Swallow the tablet whole with water, with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose is one tablet.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Allergic reaction (hypersensitivity)
  • Headache
  • Feeling sick (nausea), vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain
  • Loss of appetite
  • Tiredness, weakness
  • Fever
  • General feeling of being unwell
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Muscle and joint pain
  • Cough, irritated or runny nose
  • Skin rash
  • Hair loss
RARE
  • Low red blood cell count (anemia) or low white blood cell count (neutropenia)
  • Increased liver enzyme levels (seen in blood tests)
  • Low platelet count (thrombocytopenia)
  • Liver problems (e.g., yellow skin/eyes, enlarged liver, fatty liver, inflammation)
  • Pancreas inflammation (pancreatitis)
  • Muscle tissue breakdown
  • Increased amylase enzyme levels (seen in blood tests)
  • Numbness, tingling sensation in the skin
  • Weakness in arms and legs
  • Severe skin rashes with blisters, target-like spots (erythema multiforme), widespread rashes with skin peeling (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis)
  • Too much lactic acid in the blood (lactic acidosis)
  • Bone marrow failure to produce new red blood cells (pure red cell aplasia)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to abacavir, lamivudine, or any other ingredients. A severe allergic reaction (hypersensitivity) can be life-threatening if you keep taking this medicine. Always carry your warning card.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems, or if you are very overweight.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart problems or risk factors like high blood pressure or diabetes. Do not stop taking this medicine without your doctor's advice.
  • This medicine is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. HIV can pass to your baby through breast milk.
  • This medicine may affect your ability to drive or use machines. Talk to your doctor if you are unsure.

  • Always tell your doctor or pharmacist about all other medicines you are taking, including new ones.
  • Some HIV patients may develop bone problems (osteonecrosis) where parts of the bone tissue die due to poor blood supply. If you feel joint stiffness, aches, or difficulty moving, tell your doctor.
